Grand Blue Mile Announces 2016 Race Results / April 26, 2016
More than 4,000 runners took part in the 7th Annual Grand Blue Mile on April 26 in downtown Des Moines’ Western Gateway. The event attracted elite athletes and competitive and recreational runners from 16 states, four countries and three continents.
In the men’s invitational championship, Chad Noelle bested all runners with a time of 4:12.11. Frezer Legesse (4:12.13) and Riley Masters (4:12.34) finished second and third place respectively.
Two-time defending women’s invitational champion Heather Kampf finished first with a time of 4:37.52 followed by Nicole Sifuentes (4:37.95) and Nikki Hamblin (4:38.78).
A total of $30,000 in prize money was awarded among the top finishers, with each men’s and women’s champion receiving $5,000.

Mascot Madness Charity Challenge
Billy from the Iowa Barnstormers and Crash from the Iowa Wild were the winners of the second-annual Mascot Madness Charity Challenge and each took home a $1,000 prize for their charitable foundation. Billy edged out Rosie the Reader from the Des Moines Public Library and Surge with the Iowa Energy in the “fastest” division who finished second and third place respectively. Crash bested T.C. from the University of Northern Iowa and Cy of Iowa State University in the “furriest” division who finished second and third respectively.
The 8th Annual Grand Blue Mile is scheduled for April 25, 2017.
