Set the Pace Challenge
The Healthiest State Initiative is teaming up with the Grand Blue Mile, the Midwest’s premier one-mile fitness walk/run for all ages and abilities, to encourage Iowa communities to Set the Pace in 2019, kick-starting a season of improved health and well-being across the state.
Now in its tenth year, the Grand Blue Mile, scheduled for April 23, offers a unique opportunity to showcase the collective commitment of Iowans to continue building upon the Healthiest State Initiative’s achievements in supporting the fitness of our families, friends, and neighbors.
Together, let’s walk the talk at the Grand Blue Mile and make 2019 our healthiest year yet!
What’s in it for you and your community?
In addition to personally developing sustainable healthy habits, walking or running the Grand Blue Mile provides a chance to win $10,000 for your community to use on a project that promotes safe and accessible places in which to be active, such as a park, playground, or trail. It’s all part of our Set the Pace challenge.
All you have to do is register and participate on April 23.
Participation will be tracked via the ZIP Code of each registrant against the community’s total population. The community with the highest percentage of participants (proportionally) will be awarded $10,000.
A minimum of 10 registrations is required to qualify a ZIP Code. Additionally, a community may only receive funding once in three years.
Eat Well. Move More. Feel Better.
It sounds simple, yet obesity and disease prevalence is on the rise. This trend doesn’t have to continue. Do your part by eating well – ditching the processed foods for healthy options and moving more – participating in the Grand Blue Mile and engaging in 150 minutes of moderate activity a week, such as brisk walking, to ultimately feel better for years to come!
